Dr. Schaffner practices low-dose ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP). She completed two advanced training experiences at the Katalyst program in British Columbia and participated in a Shamanic training community throughout 2022-2023. In these settings, she learned valuable lessons about what is needed for medicine to be safely integrated with mindfulness, AEDP, PSIP, IFS, and other therapy approaches.
Ketamine is a dissociative drug prescribed by medical doctors for the treatment of many mental health conditions. In her training experiences, Dr. Schaffner learned to provide therapy during the client’s use of ketamine in order to deepen the therapy process and help clients get ‘unstuck’ and live richer and more meaningful lives, significantly reducing symptoms while increasing their sense of aliveness, connection, and vitality. Ketamine sessions involve an initial medical assessment, a preparation session, a medicine session, and integration sessions following the use of the medicine. The ketamine is prescribed by Dr. Michael Muench, a medical doctor at The Therapy Collective, LLC. Dr. Schaffner coordinates and consults with Dr. Muench throughout the client’s treatment in order to provide safe, comprehensive care.
